Hi!

Hey guys, I hope y'all are reading this from the safety of your homes!

Here is me at home.

That is where I am. Inside my home. In rural Wisconsin. Unfortunately. I am honestly pretty bummed about not being able to take this course at Lawrence where we could engage in discussion a bit more naturally, but this will have to do. Hopefully we can all make the best of it. :)

I wanted to take this course because for basically my whole life I have been a baby about watching scary movies and I think that should change, mainly because at their core I find them fascinating. And I am not really sure why. I guess the hope is that this course will help me figure that out, plus a whole bunch of other cool things. Basically I find theory very compelling haha.

Quarantine has been a bit boring, as I am sure it has been for most of us. It is just me and my mom here and it can definitely get dull at times. I have been trying to get outside on the nice days, ya know, trying to take advantage of the free state park entrances when I can. Something I couldn't help thinking about with quarantine and this class is that, when I had signed up, I was under the impression that I would be watching these films with my friends and classmates which would lessen the mental blow for me and my wandering thoughts. But now, the circumstances have changed drastically. Now I will be watching the films alone in my old, creaky farm house smack dab in the middle of woods. So that is super great. Wish me luck. 👍

Oh also I have engaged in the cultural phenomena that is Tiger King.

  1. it is interesting that you somehow find the horror film compelling but don’t know why. And I agree that film theory is really something cool to learn because it basically answers why are we enjoying art in the way they are aesthetically ally and in the way we are psychologically. I am so happy to have class with you again, we are each other’s stalker oh yay. Hope you are doing well at home. I am also going to be watching all the films alone at dorm in Kohler Hall oh my. Wish both of us luck!
